What is 1060 Aluminum

1060 aluminum belongs to the 1000 series of commercial pure aluminum, featuring a minimum aluminum content of 99.6%. It is a non-heat-treatable alloy that can only be strengthened through cold working (strain hardening).

Known for its extremely high purity, 1060 aluminum offers excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, outstanding corrosion resistance, and superior formability. While it has relatively low mechanical strength compared to alloyed aluminum, it is extensively used in non-structural, lightweight, and electrical applications where maximum formability and conductivity are required.

Key Properties of 1060 Aluminum

Excellent Conductivity

1060 aluminum offers high electrical conductivity of about 61% IACS and thermal conductivity of approximately 230–234 W/(m·K).

Good Weldability

1060 aluminum can be readily welded using common aluminum welding processes with suitable procedures and filler materials.

Excellent Formability

Its high ductility allows easy bending, rolling, stamping, spinning, and deep drawing, especially in the O temper.

Non-Heat-Treatable

1060 cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. Its strength is increased through cold working, with H12, H14, H16, and H18 offering progressively higher strength.

Excellent Corrosion Resistance

A natural oxide layer protects 1060 aluminum from atmospheric corrosion, providing reliable performance in many environments.

High Purity and Lightweight

With ≥99.60% aluminum content and a density of about 2.705 g/cm³, 1060 combines high purity with the lightweight advantages of aluminum.

Common Surface Treatment of 1060 Aluminum

Anodizing

Anodizing forms a protective oxide layer that improves corrosion resistance, surface hardness, and appearance. It is suitable for decorative and architectural applications.

Polishing

Polishing smooths the aluminum surface and creates a bright, clean finish. It is commonly used for decorative parts and reflective components.

Brushing

Brushing creates a uniform linear texture on the surface, providing a modern appearance while reducing the visibility of minor scratches and marks.

Coating

Coating adds a protective or decorative layer to improve weather resistance, corrosion protection, and color durability. Common options include PVDF and powder coating.

Embossing

Embossing creates a textured surface that improves appearance and surface durability while concealing minor imperfections.

Perforating

Perforating creates precisely arranged holes for ventilation, filtration, light transmission, and weight reduction.

Typical Applications of 1060 Aluminum
